Professional Organizations

After attending the techMaine conference this week, it got me thinking about professional organizations. My company is a member of techMaine and I am on the board (and a paid member) of the Association of REALbasic Developers. My techMaine membership allows me to support the local technical community. I also get business leads (techConnect), but few of those are for work that we do. I also get a discount to the conference and a listing in the member directory on the web site. techMaine 2008 Conference

This year’s techMaine conference was held at the Clarion Hotel on outer Congress Street in Portland, Maine. It’s always fun to go to this inexpensive one day conference to catch up with old colleagues and meet new folks. The keynote this year was by Douglas Banks, editor of MHT: the Journal of New England Technology. He gave an interesting talk on technology trends in New England, but he was not as good as speakers from past years. The first session I went to was on “cloud computing”.
