One of the commentaries I read this week said he left four years of product development direction ... We may still get to see what he was thinking of next.

Well said, Paul. Steve touched all of us in ways subtle and not so subtle. It's hard to understand everything he did. I think he is the Thomas Edison of our generation.

BTW, my Mac Pro (8 core, 2.8GHz) is filled with 6 drives (plus DVD drive). 4 in the dedicated slots, and two in the spare DVD area, connected to the extra two S-ATA connectors on the mother board. One SSD for system and most-accessed data (development source etc.), the others configured as two separate mirrored RAID volumes, one for data, one for backups. And get this: One of the mirrors is made up from 3 drives: two 500GB drives turned into 1TB, plus one 1TB drive, so I get 1 mirrored 1TB drive for data, by re-using older drives that way. Works for years, reliably. I really love this Mac Pro (I also still have a G5 next to it, which is just as heavy, but is very noisy, so I leave it off unless I need to do some PPC testing).

Anyway - congrats on the setup. I also got my MacBook Pro as a refurbished one, and never regretted it.

For any kind of off-site backup, I highly recommend checking out "CrashPlan". It does its job nicely in the background, just like Dropbox and Time Machine, but with much better options. Only downside: Restored Backups aren't bootable. But the flexibility and price makes up for it.

Good advice, Thomas.

BTW, I see that Find Any File was mentioned as one of the best apps on the Mac App Store in the latest issue of Macworld. Congrats!

Welcome to the club! :)

Just keep in mind: As long as you manage to stay in any of the top 10 lists, do not do anything to lose your place. E.g, do NOT raise the price despite having announced so before. Only once you fall out, raise the price. Raising the price sooner will only make you lose the top10 area and then you'll immediately drop to nearly zero sales. Been there myself, and others have confirmed that, too.

Good luck with staying afloat for long!

So everything is setup. I went with the 48 gb version and I feel like I just got a whole new computer!!! Everything is extremely responsive and snappy and I cleared a lot of space off of my internal HDD in the process. Great tip, this is a must have for anyone trying to boost performance or wondering what to do with your ExpressCard Slot.

It seems that the manufacturer had a line of faulty units that crashed shortly after use, or at least that's what I get out of Paul's posts compared to the negative reviews of it on NewEgg. Knowing that this isn't normally the case really helps me out a lot with my decision to make this conversion to boot off of the expressCard SSD. Thank you Paul for your fast response time!

I am really excited to not only see a faster acting OS but I've been searching far and wide to use my PCI ExpressCard Slot, something I thought I was cursed with when buying my late 2008 unibody 15", but now I'm more then excited to have, helping me make this step into the future!

I'll setup my machine to still be able to boot from the internal HDD just to be safe though :-)
